Trimming Out a Bookcase

Monday, Monday.  So good to me...today.

I am feeling pretty on top of things today.  I have gotten ready for the day, eaten breakfast, sanded four chairs, and spray painted five chairs and a sculpture.  And it's only 10:08!  Now I'm feeling like I have earned the right to take time to blog...so here I am, getting to talk to you lovely people!

First, let me say that there are a few little changes going on around here that I'm pretty pumped about.  I finally have buttons at the top of my sidebar so you can easily visit my Pinterest, Facebook, and Twitter pages.  Are you on Pinterest yet?  I love, love, love it.  A good friend sent me an invite last fall, and I have spent more time there than I care to admit.  Research, right?  Right.  I have all my pages set up to work together now, and will be posting new posts and updates through them, so keep up however is best for you!  You can also "Pin," "Tweet," or "Like" any post using the buttons at the bottom of each post.  Joe, my husband, is a computer guru--my computer guru--and he spent a couple precious hours of his Saturday helping me out.  I gave him lots of hugs.  Thanks, honey.

Also, let me throw out a quick "thank you" to the ladies over at Classy Clutter, who host their Saturday Spotlight linky party every week, and featured my Antique Distressed Dresser last week!  Thanks to everyone who visited, hope you found something useful :)

Alrighty, now on to the reason you came over here in the first place.  My sharp wit  bookcase!

Window Garden

Yesterday and today have been full of exciting decorating fun.  Today, I've been working on a little bench made from a small wood crate--but you'll have to wait until it's done to see it!  For today, I have the results of a long thought-out process that I finally jumped on yesterday.

                      Before                                                                                    After

In magazines, I kept stumbling across pictures like the ones found in these blog posts (I am sorry, but I cannot post pictures from other sites on my blog...they always end up getting removed even if they are credited and linked to the original site...anyone know if that's just the way it's always going to be, or if there's a way around it?  I read blogs that have pictures from other sites up...I'm just not sure how they do it!).  If you have a spare moment, these are the links to their posts; they're pretty cool:

Don't you love those hanging terrariums?  If I got my wish, I would have some of those puppies--I'm just not sure that I would remember to mist them everyday.  And I love the idea of glass shelving in the window--they give you a place for plants without blocking the light.  Perfect.

But for me right now, I wanted to find a similar solution without having to go and buy anything.  So yesterday I set out to get it done.

Antique Medicine Cabinet

It's getting cold here.  I keep hoping that Summer wouldn't be over, but I have to start embracing Fall.  We've had to turn our heat on a few times already.  *sigh*  But there are some trees getting ready to turn, so I'm sure it's going to be beautiful, even if it is cold.  Think positive.  And I keep hearing wild turkeys gobble and pheasants cluck, or whatever it is they do.  They're funny sounding little things.

But on to the medicine cabinet.  I found this medicine cabinet at a sale, and picked it up for a makeover.  It was in good shape, but was pretty darn old.  Funny enough, I found it the same day I got the Antique Ironing Board Cupboard that I posted on earlier.  Things seem to come in waves--I can be looking for cupboards and there are none to be had.  Then one day I will find three all at once!  Ironic.

So here is the big guy before he got some well-deserved paint:

I got the first set of pictures a Little late--so I already had the mirror in the middle taped off.  You get the picture, though.  I just get so darn excited!

Glossy Black Dresser

Joe and I have entered adult-land and we have a dresser.  We had reached a breaking point and something had to be done.  Piles of clothes are excusable in college and high school (anyone who knew me in high school knows that piles of clothes were my special talent), but we are a little old for that.  And since storage is at a huge premium in our apartment, it required furniture.  A Dresser, to be exact.

I went to my favorite little thrift store and found a white dresser for $10.  It's not of the highest quality, (drawers are sticky and hard to move in and out) but for $10, it means that if I don't want to move it somewhere in the end, I can just re-donate it.  My theme throughout this whole project was, "Hey, $10 Dresser."  It was the perfect reasoning to do a few crazy things.

Here is the dresser as I brought it home:  It had been repainted by someone, probably in the 60's-70's, since they went for a white and gold theme.
I loved these hardware pulls on the top drawers, and the textured lines on the drawers.
