Reclaimed Lumber

Introducing...My obsession.

Reclaimed Lumber
Warning: Love of reclaimed lumber is considered highly contagious...

I have been slightly obsessed with reclaimed lumber--especially when used as furniture tops and floors--since Joe built my kitchen island last year:

Reclaimed or antique lumber has become a really popular option in recent years because  you can take a brand spankin' new house, put in antique wood floors or countertops, and it magically gives the house a sense of history.
Insta-Character!

So when I brought home this little beauty I was dreaming of putting a reclaimed lumber top on it.

My lumber source:

These lovely (yes, see the potential?) pallets were given to us by a friend, and until now I had only used the lumber from them in as-is condition.  For example, Joe and I made this work table with the lumber a few months ago:

Antique Medicine Cabinet

It's getting cold here.  I keep hoping that Summer wouldn't be over, but I have to start embracing Fall.  We've had to turn our heat on a few times already.  *sigh*  But there are some trees getting ready to turn, so I'm sure it's going to be beautiful, even if it is cold.  Think positive.  And I keep hearing wild turkeys gobble and pheasants cluck, or whatever it is they do.  They're funny sounding little things.

But on to the medicine cabinet.  I found this medicine cabinet at a sale, and picked it up for a makeover.  It was in good shape, but was pretty darn old.  Funny enough, I found it the same day I got the Antique Ironing Board Cupboard that I posted on earlier.  Things seem to come in waves--I can be looking for cupboards and there are none to be had.  Then one day I will find three all at once!  Ironic.

So here is the big guy before he got some well-deserved paint:

I got the first set of pictures a Little late--so I already had the mirror in the middle taped off.  You get the picture, though.  I just get so darn excited!

Antique Ironing Board Cupboard

First off, let me say a big THANK YOU!  This is a screen shot of my blog's stats page:

See That??  1,000 page views!  Hooray!  Thank you all for making me feel special.  Actually, I'm excited that people tend to visit based on content.  I'm glad--I hope that you all learn something with me along the way.  Thank you for your visits and your comments.

Earlier tonight it was actually at 999 visits, and Joe wanted to be the lucky Mr. 1,000, and so he was.  Congratulations, honey, you get a gold star for the day.

And on to why you clicked on this post in the first place!

I found at a garage sale this great old cupboard, originally a built-in ironing board cupboard:

Awww, Cutie!

It's hard to tell in these pictures, but the backing inside the cupboard is the old, legit beadboard--you know, the tongue and groove stuff, not the sheets you buy at the store now.  It was calling my name.  And I said "Okay!"
